Use soft, repeatable lighting
Photograph near neutral daylight or with a consistent diffused light. Mixed warm and cool sources can distort colour, while hard direct light can hide surface detail behind glare.
Show the information clients need
Capture a balanced hero angle plus close views that show the apex or structure, sidewalls, cuticle area, free edge, and nail art detail. Keep the hand relaxed and the background simple.
Edit presentation, not the work
Crop, straighten, and correct exposure carefully, but do not reshape fingers, erase product flaws, or change the polish colour. A useful portfolio sets accurate expectations.
Get clear photo consent
Explain where the image may appear and avoid including faces, addresses, documents, or identifiable home details unless the client explicitly agreed. Store the original consent with the service record.
